Corbiere means the place where crows congregate, however when I recently was very fortunate enough to go to Jersey I never saw any crows on the fantastic Corbiere Lighthouse Jersey.
I only had a short time frame, like most I was actually on holiday with the wife and kids and I couldn’t really justify pulling myself away from the kids, holidays are special memories so it was always in the back of my mind that I was actually being selfish for leaving them… that being said Jersey is a small island and from the capital St Helier you can be almost anywhere on the island within a maximum of 30 minutes.
I decided as the 2 previous evening sunsets had been spectacular that I would bite the bullet and ask the kids if the wouldn’t mind if I slipped of for the last hour, sunset had been setting at 20:30 and the kids were that tired that they were in bed for 21:00 so I would only really be missing them for the last hour as I had been to the lighthouse already in the day I didn’t need to do any recce, but it still made me feel guilty !!
I arrived at Corbiere in time to get into a decent position and watched as the sun set, this is i might note my first attempt at any sea scape photography, I don’t live near the sea so getting to the beach for me is a 3 hour drive. I was nervous at getting the settings and filters right, I think for me its trial and error, ive heard that some photographers have charts and rules and work out what the exposure and shutter should be, but for me I generally know roughly what settings to use, and im normally close to the right settings, I normally just have to tweak my exposure a little.
